![]() ![]() In the last few years he's given up a lot of his territory as multi-instrumentalist in order to introduce more members to the band and help make the live show better match the scope of the studio recordings. Much of the band's most mainstream popular work was colored by his struggle with and defeat of a heroin addiction. He originally joined the band as the drummer in 1992, wowing Wayne with his powerful Bonham-inspired playing, and by 1997 he had taken over virtually all instrumentation besides bass. Steven started playing music at a very young age, having learned a variety of instruments in order to assist his father's polka band. *Steven Drozd is the primary songwriter of the band. A showman through and through, Wayne's uncompromising approach to being himself despite the norm is the source of much of the band's charisma. Wayne's been having some sort of life crisis over the last few years, but it looks like he's managed to purge a lot of it with the band's latest album and his recent divorce. The thematic seeds of the band's lyrics mostly originate from a robbery of the Long John Silver's he worked at as a teen, in which he was sure that he was going to be murdered. He's from one of the poorer areas of OKC and actually still lives there in a weird Willy Wonka house where he makes crazy Halloween attractions to scare the local children. So I'm writing this guide to introduce them to Redditors who may not be familiar with them or a small portion of their discography- and maybe turn around some of the people that outright dislike the band.īefore we begin with the albums, a quick runthrough of the major members: Factoring in their surprisingly large and varied discography as well as elaborate home-made live shows, you just might find that The Fearless Freaks are one of the more compelling bands of the last 30 years and certainly one of the most entertaining to follow. The only songs of theirs I've seen with any decent amount of positive response are their two undisputedly most popular songs: "She Don't Use Jelly" and "Do You Realize?" While I do love those songs, there's a whole lot more to the band than those singles- in fact, the band has been incredibly influential since their beginnings mixing punk and acid rock in the Oklahoma City scene up to their present-day dark psychedelia. Most of my posts to r/Music are links to songs and live videos by them. ![]() My favorite currently active band is The Flaming Lips and I follow them almost to a point of obsession. ![]()
